Leak and heat pump alarms

What your Cala's leak and heat pump alarms mean, what to do when one sounds, and how to turn the sounds on or off.

Updated October 31, 2026

Your Cala has two alarms: a leak alarm that sounds when it detects water where it shouldn't be, and a heat pump alert that beeps if the heat pump can't run. Here's what each one means, what to do, and how to turn the sounds on or off.

Leak alarm

Your Cala checks for water in two places: the leak detector on the floor under the unit, and the drip tray under the heat pump. While either one is wet, the buzzer sounds and the Home screen says which one:

  • Floor Leak Detected: the leak detector on the floor is wet.
  • Condensate Tray Full: the drip tray under the heat pump is full.
  • Combined Leak Detected: both are wet.

A short code appears in front of the message. If there is more than one problem at once, the screen shows Multiple errors occurred instead.

What to do

  1. Turn off power to your water heater at the circuit breaker.

  2. Close the cold water shut-off valve in your home's plumbing.

  3. Find where the water is coming from. If the drip tray is full, the condensate line may be blocked.

  4. Clean up the water.

  5. Once the leak is fixed and dry, open the cold water shut-off valve and turn the power back on at the circuit breaker. The alarm stops when the sensors are dry.

Heat pump alert

If the heat pump is blocked from running for 5 minutes in a row, your Cala beeps once for 2 seconds. It doesn't beep again until the heat pump has recovered and the problem happens again.

If the alert keeps coming back, try restarting your water heater. If that doesn't help, contact your installer or support@calasystems.com.

Turn alarm sounds on or off

  1. On your Cala's screen, press Down until SETTINGS is highlighted, then press Select. (If the screen is dark, press any button first to wake it.)

  2. Press Down until ALERT MANAGEMENT is highlighted, then press Select.

  3. Press Down until LEAK ALERTS: ON or HEAT PUMP ALERTS: ON is highlighted, then press Select. The row changes to OFF. Press Select again to turn it back ON.
